#AvaloALAINVISIBLE COOP57

La Casa Invisible has decided to take a big step forward and embark on the rehabilitation of the building. For that we need that all the Invisible community gets involved.

We are getting ready to request a loan of € 150,000 from COOP57 , an ethical and solidary financial services coop we are part of. We want to offer greater guarantees so, during the next 40 days we have launched this campaign to collect joint endorsements .

For 11 years, in the midst of the urban destruction of Malaga, la Casa Invisible has years forged weapons of mass construction in a previously abandoned municipal building. We will face the irresponsibility of a Mayor who does not invest in a building under protection which is left it at the mercy of the privatization rapacity dictated by the Ciudadanos party. We will take our co-responsibility with Malaga’s public heritage further: we offer to advance 150,000 euros to undertake the first phase of our comprehensive rehabilitation project, presented to the Council almost two years ago.

If the Mayor continues to go through the rehabilitation without understanding that the cession is the solution, we have to raise the bet: an #Invisible Proposal so the Mayor could not look away.

the INVISIBLE

La Casa Invisible is a Social and Cultural Center for Citizen Management that was born in March 2007 when a large network of citizens, neighborhoods and creators decided to fill with life a beautiful municipal property that was in a state of neglect. The objectives that we set ourselves then were clear:
_Stimulate processes of social self-organization that strengthen networks and social movements that work for social justice.
_Create a laboratory of cultural experimentation carried out by local creators and based on criteria of cooperation, collaborative production and free culture.
_Promote training paths in different areas (social sciences, politics, technology, art and creation, etc.) that encourage critical thinking, citizen empowerment, social creativity and collective action.
_Experience models of citizen management of equipment and common goods that promote a democratic radicalization based on equity and the direct participation of neighborhoods and cities in the design, development and management of public policies.

ULEX

The ULEX (Free Experimental University) was born in Malaga in March 2007 as one of the fundamental axes of La Casa Invisible, a social and cultural center for citizen management. It is a device for the production of knowledge located in the context of living social processes, in conflict and gestation. The ULEX is not a neutral space of knowledge, it is rather a laboratory, an agency for the production of knowledge-weapons, tool knowledge capable of biting the reality we live. Creating collective trajectories of self-training increases the degrees of freedom at the time of instituting new fields of elaboration and social invention beyond the short view that precarizes the creative and cognitive power of contemporary productive subjects.
Since 2012, with the creation of the Foundation of the Commons by different state initiatives, including la Casa Invisible, ULEX also organizes the seminars and courses Common Notions, fundamental axis of the Foundation.

MediaLAB

"Our era will be remembered as the era in which the Internet appeared, but not in its technical dimension, but as the mere support of a new society, a society that expresses itself both in the nascent brotherhood of relationships at a distance and in face-to-face proximity, where we rediscover the wisdom of the body, a magnificent example is the Invisible Medialab, a space that builds itself in action, in the joy of sharing illusions, knowledge, ideas and works, in which it is difficult to discern whether what happens there is teaching, research, production or invention, where one does not know where the practices end and where the theories begin ". REHABILITATION Project

La Casa Invisible is located in the northwest of the historical Nucleus of Malaga, in an area affected by the destruction of the existing social fabric and the destruction of our heritage. The building is an old palace built in 1876. The mutually beneficial link between the building and the type of services it provides to citizens is what gives legitimacy to a project of these characteristics. In this sense, it should be understood that since 2007 our repairs, improvements and permanent care have rescued the building from the state of abandonment and deterioration.
The proposal for its comprehensive rehabilitation far exceeds the model of the conventional technical file, considering itself as a substantial part of the cultural project of la Casa Invisible. A gradual and flexible process, with minimal intervention, without increasing the built volume, which is, by far, the most sustainable option.

la fundación de los comunes

The Fundación de los Comunes is a laboratory of ideas that produces critical thinking from social movements as a tool of political intervention. We are a network of research groups, publishing, training, social spaces and bookstores that share resources to promote the democratic revolution and social equality.
We have work teams in Iruña, Barcelona, Terrassa, Zaragoza, Madrid and Malaga. In these cities we have social spaces where cultural, educational and political activities are carried out: Katakrak Bookstore, La Coora Cooperativa, Ateneu Candela, La Casa Invisible or Traficantes de Sueños. Each of these places has its own configuration, some are ceded or recovered spaces, other political entrepreneurships of a cooperative nature.

Extended presentation

The project of citizen management behind La Casa Invisible is inconceivable, and impracticable, if it is abstracted from its material dimension. We do not make castles in the air nor are we isolable, pigeon-holeable, merchandizable bodies. Hence the emphasis during our 11 years of life to feed (ourlseves from) a creative and critical dwelling in a nineteenth-century building of the historic center of a Malaga on which the City Council firestamps its motto “Where culture is capital”.

It is from that critical dwelling that la Casa Invisible defends the city as a space for social transformation and also observes how some want a city in the image and likeness of its mediocrity, a city mortgaged to particular interests or strategies imposed from Madrid or Barcelona. We have proven this when, after denouncing us for activities clearly framed in the freedom of artistic expression, the local Ciudadanos party franchise demanded the eviction of the Invisible House and its auction to the highest bidder … and Mayor Francisco de la Torre (PP) seconded shamefully.

It is, remember, the same mayor who, after congratulating us on Christmas Eve 2014 with a precautionary closure order for “safety reasons”, saw how our mobilization capacity (in the streets and though the crowdfundings in 2015 and 2016) along with our technical expertise allowed us to carry out the works required to reopen the courtyard on March 10, 2015. And it is the same mayor who, in September 2015, promoted that the Council Plenary unanimously (including Ciudadanos) approved the direct cession of the building in the absence of closing the legal and technical fringes for its execution.

From our side, these fringes were resolved long ago:
a) On May 13, 2016, the socio-cultural project of la Casa Invisible led to the recognition as “Entity of Municipal Public Utility” of the Fundación de los Comunes, , the legal entity that we created for the cession.
b) This official recognition paves the way to justify the direct assignment of the property, always subject to a term and well-assessed rights and obligations.
c) On June 21, 2016, we presented the City Council with our Basic Rehabilitation Project, an ambitious technical proposal that, conceived as a substantial part of the global cultural project, raises a minimum and gradual intervention that does not interrupt the activities.

nd here we are. After years letting pass the necessary transfer for the rehabilitation of this protected building, now the Mayor bets everything to a re-election in 2019 apparently using the Invisible House as currency with its partners, the orange agents of the city without citizens.

In view of this, we raised our bets with a loan by COOP57, a coop of ethical financial services (of which we are partners as part of the Fundación de los Comunes) by which we would advance 150,000 euros to undertake the first phase of our rehabilitation project.

Help us to make the mayor see the Invisible bid and assume what the City Office of Urbanism recognizes: that “it is the City Council as owner that has the obligation to maintain the building in safety, health and decor”. Join our campaign of joint endorsements to support this loan request and get the Mayor to rectify and understand that, also economically, the cession is the solution.

FAQ

Why are you doing this campaign?

We have explained it with a little more depth here .

What is a collective endorsement?

To grant a loan, COOP57 asks for certain guarantees from the entity requesting the financial support. These guarantees are such of a personal and non-financial nature that are exercised by the persons or entities that endorse the request. The guarantee is always collective, that is, divided proportionally among all the guarantors. Unlike the conventional entities that require several guarantees (each guarantor is responsible for the entire amount of the loan), you would only respond to the money you want to guarantee and never for the total amount of credit that we are soliciting. To illustrate this, this means that if you guarantee us with € 100 and La Casa Invisible left 50% of the requested amount unpaid, then you will only have to pay € 50.

Do I have to transfer any money?

No, you do not have to transfer anything. The endorsement is a document in which a person or entity (you) agrees to respond for the applicant of a loan (La Casa Invisible), in the event that the latter commited a default on the repayment of this loan. In addition, in COOP57 they work with the idea of collective guarantees (different from solidarity guarantees, which are the ones traditionally used by traditional banks).

How are you going to repay the requested loan?

The first thing to clarify is that, in our case, the loan backed by these guarantees will only become reality when the Mayor withdraws the Order of Eviction and fulfills the commitment of direct cession of the property. At that time, we will inform you promptly of the COOP57 loan solution, which will then be effectively backed by your guarantee.

What happens if you have difficulties to return the credit?

The first thing to clarify is that, in our case, the loan backed by these guarantees will only become reality when the Mayor withdraws the Order of Eviction and fulfills the commitment of direct cession of the property. Assuming that the granting of the loan always entails a verification of the solvency of the applicants, when problems of return of a credit are detected, in COOP57 a follow-up commission is created (remember that COOP57 is formed by entities of social economy and by common people, we are all partners of the same project) that is responsible for dictating the causes and reasons for the situation and proposing how to handle them, in a way that satisfies both La Invisible and COOP57. We extract this quote from COOP57's own website:
"Only in the event that the entity receiving financial support from COOP57 refuses to participate in the monitoring commission, the appropriate measures can be taken. The main objective of COOP57 is financial support for projects with a high social content. His failure is also ours "

What happens if you can’t guarantee the total? What if you surpass it?

This guarantee is just one of the guarantees that we will provide to COOP57 but it is not the only one, the technical commission of COOP57 will study and advise us on what services we need. The fact of putting a concrete target amount is because we think it will help us to be constant in our aims, as it is a challenge when it comes to continuing to rehabilitate the space.
If we exceeded the estimated amount, we would obviously be very happy and above all responsible with all the support you have demonstrated. Nothing bad happens for exceeding 100%. On the contrary, it is positive: in the remote case of default by our when returning the loan, the load will be redistributed considering the percentage of more that has been guaranteed.

Is this a crowdfunding campaign? Do we have rewards for being guarantors?

This is not a crowdfunding campaign, so we do not follow the logic of matching objects as a reward. But it is a campaign of micro-guarantees. This guarantee means committing yourself to an economic amount. But guarantee also means that La Casa Invisible is a social and cultural project whose returns have already been (and will continue to be) given if we are left to continue with our work.
So in that sense, the reward, besides an infinite gratitude, is our commitment to continue transforming the world that surrounds us collectively, to keep taking care of the culture as we understand it (free), to carry on experimenting, to continue with our creation, thinking and acting together.

How long is the campaign?

40 days and, so as the ancient proverb says: do not leave for the last day what you can guarantee today.

How is the procedure for being a guarantor?

You have to fill out the form with your data and decide how much money you support us with. Done this, and as explained in the form, by clicking on "I accept" you will be generating with us a digital guarantee fully valid for COOP57 because it contains all your data and your acceptance.
